1/72 Roman Buildings

By the early second century, the frontier of the Roman Empire in the northern provinces was secured by a chain of fortresses, watchtowers and palisades. The predominant building material in this early period was wood. Modern studies show a massive reduction of forest areas in this time, since the material had been widely used for the construction of buildings, forts and for industrial heating of smelting ovens, brickyards, underfloor heating and similar purposes. Combined with the stronger construction, this may be caused the replacement of wooden fortifications, like the forts and the watchtowers at the Limes frontier, by similiar buildings made from stone in the late 2nd century.

Our kit in 1/72 scale is based on modern reconstructions of the stone watchtowers at the Limes. Like the original, the exterior of the watchtower is decorated with plaster imitations, which should give an imposing appearance. The kit of the Limes watchtower consists of over 200 laser-cut parts made of wood and textured cardboard. Even the wooden shingles of the roof are depicted lifelike. The interior of the watch tower is also equipped with walls, wooden floors, beds, table, chairs and ladders, so the realistic impression is not spoiled even when looking through the windows. A multi-page, richly illustrated instruction is also included.
