The first buckles of this kind date to the mid of the 2nd century (period C1), they were popular in- and outside of the roman empire. The original of our reproduction was found in a late 2nd century layer at the german sacrificial bog of Illerup in Denmark, but a nearly identic specimen is on display among the finds of the roman Saalburg-Museum in Germany.
