Rune Othila (the Hertitage)

The rune Othila corresponds to the sound "O", Othila translates as "the inheritance". The rune of constancy, traditions, the legacy of the past and the ancestral inheritance is assigned to the god Wali, its healing powers work against hereditary diseases.

Handcrafted from solid, genuine bronze with a rough, authentic look. The delivery includes a gift box, a leather thong and a certificate. Size approx. 28 x 18 mm.

The rune Othila has acquired an additional negative meaning through its use in the 3rd Reich and in connection with modern right-wing extremist associations such as the Wiking Youth or the Afrikaner Studentebond in South Africa.
The depiction of this rune is therefore prohibited in connection with modern right-wing extremist ideas. However, according to Section 86 of the StGB (3), use in art or science, research or teaching is permitted. Therefore, I expressly point out that this pendant - like all other runes - is an old Germanic character as an artistic piece of jewelry and has no reference to right-wing extremist associations.

"It is experienced if you ask the runes, the goddescended, created by the mightiest gods and drawn by the giantpoet!"
Havamal, Edda-Poem

In germanic mythology, the runes were given to the humans by Odin, the chief god and ruler of Asgard. He hung on the world tree Yggdrasil for 9 days and nights, hurt by his own spear. After all this pain he received the magical runes, who made the spoken word repeatable for eternal time. A real wonder for the ancient people! This divine origin explains the connection between the runes and the magical use. Each rune had a name, representing the sound of it´s pronunciation. Most names are reconstructable by the rune poems of the 8th century and by comparison  with the Gothic alphabet. The meaning is created by the translation of the rune´s name.
The roman author and historian Tacitus (56-117 AD) described, how the Germans tried to find answers on their questions by the help of the runes:

"Noone cares about oracels as much as they do. They cut a branch from a fruit bearing tree, dividing him in small parts. They draw signs on the pieces and throw them without plan, like the coincidence decides, on a white cloth. In case of a public questioning, the priest of the tribe - in private cases the housefather - raises his eyes to sky, draws three branch pieces and interprets them concerning the carved signs."

Still today, the 24 runes of the elder Futhark (alphabet) are the base of a rudimentary rune magic, beeing practised seriously.
