In the late 2nd century, the famous roman military belt, "cingulum" or "balteum" changend it´s appearance completely. The belt-plates, known from the earlier empire, were replaced by a new fashion. Characteristic are ring- or rectangular buckles without a thorn or spike, they are visible at many ancient roman funerary monuments of this age (Pic. 3, Augusta Raurica). At earlier archeological excavations at the beginning of the last century, the simple rings and frames were not recognized as belt fittings at all, that is the reason why nearly no complete set of fittings is published.
During excavations in Lauriacum (Enns, Austria), a full set was recovered and it is possible to reconstruct the manner of wearing by comparism with ancient gravestones. The monuments verify, that there different possibilities to wear the belt. Our reconstruction bases on reliefs from Intercisa / Hungary, the ancient province of Pannonia.
The set comprises 1 ring buckle, 2 belt decorations, 1 stud to close the belt and 1 strap end. The handcrafted belt fittings from bronze are suitable for a leather width of 35mm, thin and flexible leather should be prefered (not included).
