The Greeks, Estruscans and Romans had a special way to clean themselves after sport exercises and before the visit of the baths. They used a curved instrument, called strigilis, to cleanse oil, sometimes mixed with abrasives like sand, pumice stone or potash, and dirt from their perpired bodies.

Our reconstruction bases on original finds from the roman city of Augusta Raurica (Augst, Switerland). It is handcrafted of massive bronze, the handle is decorated with black inlays. Size app. 21 cm.
