Birka was the most important trading center in Northern Europe and was located on an island in Lake Mälaren, easily accessible by ship, about 27 km west of present-day Stockholm. The city experienced its heyday in the 9th and beginning of the 10th century.

The buckle is a find from the burial ground and, with its floral decoration, is an import from the Carolingian empire.

Suitable for a belt width of 15 mm. Complete with rivets, without leather. Length approx. 40 mm.
