Animal head brooches were part of the woman´s dress during the viking age at the island of Gotland. They could be worn as a pair to hold some kind of a apron dress in the same way like the famous oval- or tortoise-brooches in other regions of scandinavia. But there are also finds of burials, were only one brooch was given to the deceased. This single animal head brooches could hold a chain for objects like tools or keys. Length approx. 60 mm.
