This ring brooches with thistle knobs emerge in the late 9th century in Ireland. The contact to viking settlements like Dublin supported the widespread use also in the scandinavian region. In the 10th century, this penannular brooches were part of the viking men´s dress, they were also copied and elaborated by native craftsmen.
