Pendant Hedeby Patrix, Bronze
This pendant is a reworking of a patrix (embossed stamp) of a Viking goldsmith from the port of Haithabu (Hedeby).
Pendant Haithabu / Hedeby Patrix
So-called patrices were found in the harbour basin of the Viking settlement of Haithabu (Hedeby). These original models were used to make magnificent amulet pendants. A sheet of metal was driven over the patrix and then decorated with pearl wires and other elements. The patrix served as a kind of stamp or male mould.
What such a magnificent piece of jewellery might have looked like is shown by comparative finds from the island of Hiddensee near Rügen.
This pendant is a reworking of such a patrix from the port of Haithabu. Handmade from real bronze, delivered with leather thong. Size 35x30mm.
