This impressive pendant is a masterpiece of craftsmanship and historical inspiration. The sculpted portrait of the demigod Hercules, crafted in great detail in the form of a miniaturised phalera, combines ancient aesthetics with modern craftsmanship. Phaleras were round ornamental discs that were awarded as military decorations (dona militaria) in ancient Rome and symbolised courage, strength and divine assistance.

Handmade in our own workshop
Each pendant is unique, lovingly crafted by hand and inspired by Roman motifs. The portrait is based on the motif of a Roman statue from the Villa Hadriana near Tivoli, which depicts the demigod Hercules in his characteristically powerful pose with club and lion skin.

The motif: Hercules, the legendary demigod
Hercules, known as Heracles in Greek mythology, was the son of the father of the gods Jupiter (Zeus) and the mortal Alcmene. His superhuman strength and legendary deeds made him one of the most famous figures in ancient mythology. Hercules epitomises courage, endurance and overcoming seemingly impossible challenges.

The 12 labours of Hercules
Hercules is best known for his twelve labours, which were imposed on him as atonement for a murder he committed in a fit of madness. These tasks, also known as "The Twelve Labours of Hercules", included, among other things:

2. The killing of the Hydra of Lerna.

3. The capture of the Kerynite hind.

4. The capture of the Erymanthian boar.

5. Mucking out the Augean stables.

6. The expulsion of the Stymphalian birds.

7. The capture of the Cretan bull.

8. The taming of the man-eating steeds of Diomedes.

9. The procurement of the belt of the Amazon queen Hippolyte.

10. Obtaining the cattle of the giant Geryon.

11. The procurement of the golden apples of the Hesperides.

12. The abduction of the hellhound Cerberus from the underworld.

These deeds symbolise not only physical strength, but also mental determination and the ability to overcome even the greatest obstacles.

Hercules' family: His wife and son
Hercules was married several times, but his most famous wife was Deianira. Her tragic story ended with an unintentional betrayal when she gave Hercules a robe soaked in the poison of the centaur Nessus. This led to his death and his subsequent admission to Olympus as an immortal god. His son Hyllus played an important role in continuing his legacy and became the progenitor of the Heraclides, a dynasty that played an important role in Greek mythology.
According to legend, his son Telephus was the founding father of the city of Pergamon in Asia Minor and a hero in the tales of the Trojan War.
