Small Lar pendant

Pendant of a small god figure made of solid 925 silver. The pendant of the small Roman household god and lucky charm is handcrafted and comes with a leather strap in a gift box. The height of the small figurine is around 30 mm.

Small Roman Lar

The Lares or Lares played an important role in the Roman cult. They were protective deities who were worshipped in various forms. They had travel routes, fields, houses, cities and even entire states under their care. In particular, however, they protected the house and its inhabitants, as they were closely connected to the deceased ancestors. These so-called Lares familiares were worshipped in small temples (lararia),  they were either painted as elaborate portraits on the walls or even erected as real statues made of metal or clay in small temples. The lares were often associated with other deities who traditionally had a connection to the family and the master of the house.

When he was granted favour with offerings, the lar would begin to dance and fulfil the wishes and hopes of his patrons. For this reason, the small statuette, a slightly reconstructed and greatly reduced cast of an almost 2000-year-old original, holds an offering bowl (patera) in its right hand. Above his left arm is a horn of plenty (rhyton), ready to pour out good fortune and blessings for family and home.
