Roman Ring Denarius Trajan

A detailed copy of a Roman silver coin has been worked into a Roman ring.

In antiquity it was quite common to wear rings with coin portraits, and some examples have been preserved as original finds. Our combination, however, is our own creation, in which the denarius has been worked into the replica of a Roman ring rail. The diameter of the coin is about 16mm, the ring rail is about 4mm wide. Handcrafted from solid 925 silver.

The silver coin is a denarius with the portrait of Emperor Traian (Marcus Ulpius Traianus, as Emperor Imperator Caesar Nerva Traianus Augustus), who reigned between 98 and 117 AD. The obverse shows the inscription IMPerator TRAIANO AUGustus, GERmanicus, DACicus, Pontifex Maximus, TRibunitia Potestas.

On the reverse of the coin a victory sign made of captured weapons (tropaion) is depicted (RIC 147). The inscription on the reverse reads "COnSul V(quintum), Pater Patriae, Senatus PopulusQue Romanus, OPTIMO PRINCipi".

Coins of this type were minted around 107 / 108 A.D. and thematise the conquest of Dacia by Trajan.
