Writing Pen (Stylus) Aalen, Bronze
Roman bronze stylus – a writing stylus inspired by a 2nd-century AD find found in Aalen on the Limes. Perfect for writing on wax tablets, ideal for collectors, reenactments, and educational projects on the subject of antiquity.
Roman stylus (stilus) Aalen
This stylus is inspired by a find from Aalen , where one of the largest Roman cavalry forts on the Limes was located in the 2nd century AD. Around 1,000 cavalry of the Ala II Flavia were stationed here, securing the border section of the Roman Empire. Documents, lists, and notes were part of everyday administrative work—and that's precisely what a stylus like this was used for.
Made of genuine bronze, the stylus impresses with its clear lines and solid feel. The fine tip was used to scratch letters into the soft wax layer of a tablet. The flattened end served to smooth and erase the writing, making it reusable. Wax tablets were thus the Roman form of the notebook —practical, versatile, and indispensable in administration, commerce, and everyday life.
