Richborough belt set, silver, enamelled

In the late 1st century, belt fashion in the Roman military changed drastically. Narrow belt straps now appeared, which were studded with a few plates, which, according to the taste of the time, often had colourful glass inlays made of enamel. This change also influenced brooch fashion - and vice versa. The robe pins now also become smaller and are often decorated with glass inlays. Complete sets of belt fittings are rare, probably the buckles were supplemented with about 3 to 5 decorative plates.

The original buckle is a find from Richborough, an almost identical piece comes from Barrack V of the Caerleon / South Wales legionary camp. It was deposited relatively shortly after 100 A.D., as can be seen from the accompanying finds. The floral ornamentation is characteristic of a specifically Britannic style.

The belt set of solid 925 silver has coloured inlays of genuine enamel and is supplied ready to assemble. The fitting plates have rivet pins on the back for fastening.

Special requests in the colouring can be taken into account if desired.
