Roman / Germanic Brooch Almgren 19

The Almgren 19 fibulae are successors of the late celtic brooches. Finds of the A19 brooches were made in the roman provinces as well as in free Germania. At the roman side, the finds are often connected with augustean military campaigns, for example in Germania Inferior and Raetia like Augsburg, Haltern, Nimwegen or Kalkriese, the probable location of the Varus battle in the Teutoburg forest. Other specimens of the A19 type were found in civilian context or as burial gifts.
In free Germania the fibula was in common use at the Weser, Rhein and Elbe region and the local germanic tribes up to the Northsea.
The Fibulae and it´s variants were in use from about 10 BC until 40 AD.

Based on an original vom Kalkriese, our handcrafted reproduction is fully operative and made from real bronze. Delivery with certificate. Length 35mm.
