Beside the golden necklaces and bracelets, some of the most precious jewellery of the vesuvian area and the lost cities of Pompei and Herculaneum were decorative body chains. The way they were worn can be reconstructed with the help of ancient wall paintings and mummy portraits from egypt. This depictions verify the widespread use of the body chains, though they surely were only affordable for the wealthy upperclass of the roman society. They were popular from the 1st century until the late roman aera, latest finds are a body chain from the Hoxne Hoard ( late 4th to 5th century)  and a chain from egypt of the early byzantine era.

Our reproduction is based on a find from Pompei, but we replaced the loop-in-loop-chains by decorative gilded foxtail-chains which were also common for this purpose. The body chain comprises two plaques with semispherical decoration and four foxtail chains, attached by S-shaped clasps. On request it is also possible to handcraft the body chain in silver or gilded silver.
