Roman Coin Pedant, Denarius Traian
Copy of a Roman silver coin (denarius) with the portrait of Emperor Traian (Marcus Ulpius Traianus, as Emperor Imperator Caesar Nerva Traianus Augustus), who reigned between 98 and 117 AD. The obverse shows the inscription IMPerator TRAIANO AUGustus, GERmanicus, DACicus, Pontifex Maximus, TRibunitia Potestas.
On the reverse of the coin a victory sign made of captured weapons (tropaion) is depicted (RIC 147). The inscription on the reverse reads "COnSul V(quintum), Pater Patriae, Senatus PopulusQue Romanus, OPTIMO PRINCipi".
Coins of this type were minted around AD 107 / 108.
