In 5 seasons between 1950 and 1963, a large urnfield of the germanic ironage with nearly 900 burials and weapon-deposits was excaveted at Hamfelde / Germany. It was in use between 30 BC and 220 AD.
The burial gifts were mostly weaponry, and together with the scientific examination of the ashes of the urns it creates a picture of a pure graveyard for male humans. The comperison with other cementaries shows, that the germans of this culture buried men and women after the cremation at separate graveyards.
The ringfibula was part of burial no. 509. The cross-section and the shape of end-knobs of the fibula are irregular, pointing to a handmade model without the support of machines like a simple lathe. Our reproduction was made in the same way and additionaly slightly enlarged to increase the use. The pin is made from strong wire, holding even heavy clothes without problems.
