Large Penannular Brooch Birka, Silver
This stunning ring brooch in Borre-style bases on an original find from grave no. 643 of the viking grave field of Birka, Sweden. 9th century AD.
Large Birka ring brooch
This splendid cloth pin in Borre style was made after an original find from grave no. 643 of the burial ground of Birka / Sweden. The town was the most important trading centre in Northern Europe and was situated on an island in Lake Mälaren, about 27 km west of today's Stockholm, which was easily accessible by ship. Birka experienced its heyday in the 9th and early 10th centuries.
Our reconstruction is handcrafted from solid 925 silver, the pin is additionally forged for hardening. The penannular brooch has a needle holder on the back in which the long pin rests. The fabric underneath gives the needle its tension, which presses it into the rest. Length 205mm!
