To transport scrolls such as precious books or important documents in ancient times, special vessels made of clay, wicker baskets or cases made of leather were used, which should protect the contents from damage and moisture. Especially when traveling, it was usual to use to use a so-called capsa made of colored leather, which contained one or more scrolls.
Our replica is based on contemporary illustrations at frescoes and statues. The case is made of high quality leather and is hand cut and sewn. The Capsa is fully functional and will be delivered including a blank scroll 120 x 20 cm made of wood and papyrus.
Size closed about 26.5 x 5 cm. On request, the Capsa is also available without scroll.
