Miniaturised ornamental disc from the Merovingian period.
A piece of history as a decorative pendant! Ornamental discs of this kind hung as amulets on the belts of wealthy women of the Merovingian period. The often very large discs had geometric or figural ornamental motifs, probably with an ominous function. This reduction makes the meaningful motif of the early Middle Ages a piece of jewellery suitable for everyday use! The pendant is delivered in a jewellery case with a leather cord. The diameter of the pendant is 30 mm without the eyelet, freely adapted from a find in the Alzey Museum.
