Roman Ring - Leda and the Swan
The ornamental sculptural motif shows the Greek beauty Leda, Queen of Sparta, approached by Zeus as a swan.
According to legend, Leda laid two eggs after her union with Zeus, from which four children were born. These were the Dioscuri ("Zeus youths") Polydeukes (Roman Pollux) and Castor, and the girls Helena and Clytemnestra. Helena married the Spartan king Menelaus, Clytemnestra the king of Mycenae, Agamemnon.
Helen later became the trigger of the Trojan War after she fled there as Paris' lover.
The original of the ring is in the collection of the Saalburg Museum. Our replica is handcrafted from solid 585 gold (14 carat).
