Roman Brooch With Black Inlays
The hinged brooches with black inlays from enamel or niello emerge in the first half of the 1st century AD, but the heyday is the late 1st century. Even in the first decades of the 2nd century they were still in use. The type was widespread in Britain, Gaul, the middle Rhine region and in Switzerland. Some single specimens were found at the Limes forts of Upper and Lower Germania.
Our reproduction bases on an original find and is handcrafted with separate axle knobs and black inlays on the bow. We assembled an iron pin, wich is very strong and flexible and causes only small holes in textiles. On special request and with additional charge it is also possible to assemble an authentic forged bronze pin, which is considerable thicker with less tension.
