Sealing Wax, Red

Stick of genuine sealing wax for use with our petals and sealing rings. The sealing wax has a strong covering power and contour sharpness and has a retracted wick for easy use. Depending on the size of the seal, an appropriate area is dripped with the wax and the seal simply pressed into it. After a short waiting time of a few seconds, during which the heat is removed from the wax by the metal of the seal, the stamp can be removed.

The sealing wax is ideal for use on personal letters, but is also popular for certificates, labels, invitation cards or gift envelopes. Of course, an antique use for sealing papyrus rolls or wax tablets is also possible. The individual design with the help of a seal enhances every piece of writing!

Seals in antiquity

Seals were used for different purposes. On the one hand, a seal provides protection against the opening of an important document. At the very least, a seal makes it possible to tell whether someone has been able to read the contents illegally. In ancient Rome, important wax tablets, documents and contracts were sealed accordingly, with the seals themselves protected in small metal capsules. The seals thereby secured a lacing of the document, which ensured access to the contents. On the other hand, seals were usually individually assigned to a certain person or public office, so that a seal could also be used as a signature. They thus identify the sender of a letter and are at the same time proof of the authenticity of the document.

In the Middle Ages, seals were mainly used by the nobility and the clergy, with red sealing wax being reserved for the nobility and the emperor. The colours used were regulated for certain institutions (such as monasteries, free cities, etc.) and social classes depending on the period and region.
